Dalby Aquatic Centre turns Arrow Energy grant into stronger community connections

Dalby Aquatic Centre’s Venue Manager Kelly Smith and Access and Inclusion Coordinator Amber Brandt with Arrow Energy Community Officer Jayne Weier after receiving an Arrow Energy community grant.

At Dalby Aquatic Centre, small changes are making it easier for more people to stay active and connected, with 16 locals regularly taking part in the venue’s weekly Walk and Talk program.

Now, the program is set to become even more accessible, thanks to a $2,374 community grant from Arrow Energy through its Brighter Futures initiative, supporting new seating to improve accessibility.

The program has already created strong social connections within the community, with several participants now meeting up for weekly lunches after first connecting through the group.

Access and Inclusion Coordinator Amber Brandt said the grant will have a meaningful impact on the experience for participants.

“The funding will support the purchase of tables and chairs, helping create a safer, more comfortable space for participants, particularly older adults and those returning from injury, to take part in the weekly program.

“The support from Arrow Energy means we can make improvements that we didn’t think were possible, helping to make the space even more accessible for everyone,” Amber said.

Venue Manager Kelly Smith said programs like Walk and Talk play an important role in supporting both physical and social wellbeing.

“Creating a welcoming, low-pressure environment helps more people feel confident to take part, build routines and stay connected with each other. I’m really proud of Amber and the team, this grant is a great recognition of the impact they’re having in our community,” Kelly added.

Arrow Energy said the funding is part of its broader commitment to supporting community wellbeing, healthy lifestyles and connections across the regions where it operates.

Delivered as part of Belgravia Leisure’s broader commitment to community wellbeing, the program reflects how small, targeted improvements can remove barriers to participation.
